Actor Ha Jung-woo to appear in court on charges of illegal propofol administration

SEOUL, Aug. 8 (Yonhap) -- The first trial of a-list actor Ha Jung-woo (real name Kim Sung-hoon), who has been put on trial for illegal use of propofol, will be held this week. 

According to the legal community on the 8th, the Seoul Central District Court will hold Ha's first trial on charges of violating the law on drug management on the 10th. As it is a formal trial, Ha, as the defendant, must attend the court himself.

Ha was summarily indicted on charges of illegally administering propofol, which is classified as a psychotropic drug, from January to September 2019, but was handed over to a formal trial based on the court's judgment. 

The summary prosecution is a procedure in which the prosecution asks the court to issue a summary order only with a written hearing without holding a formal trial if the charges are relatively light. But if the court deems it inappropriate to issue a summary order, it can be handed over to trial to hear the case according to the trial process. 

Ha said in a statement, "I have been treated by dermatologist for acne scars, and I have been treated under sleep anesthesia if pain such as laser treatment is followed."
